4b5a79d7f4 drm/bridge_connector: hook drm_atomic_helper_connector_hdmi_hotplug()
Extend drm_bridge_connector code to read the EDID and use it to update
connector status if the bridge chain implements HDMI bridge. Performing
it from the generic location minimizes individual bridge's code and
enforces standard behaviour from all corresponding drivers.

ab716b74dc drm/display/hdmi: implement hotplug functions
The HDMI Connectors need to perform a variety of tasks when the HDMI
connector state changes. Such tasks include setting or invalidating CEC
address, notifying HDMI codec driver, updating scrambler data, etc.

Implementing such tasks in a driver-specific callbacks is error prone.
Start implementing the generic helper function (currently handling only
the HDMI Codec framework) to be used by drivers utilizing HDMI Connector
framework.

0beba3f9d3 drm/bridge: connector: add support for HDMI codec framework
Add necessary glue code to be able to use new HDMI codec framework from
the DRM bridge drivers. The drm_bridge implements a limited set of the
hdmi_codec_ops interface, with the functions accepting both
drm_connector and drm_bridge instead of just a generic void pointer.

This framework is integrated with the DRM HDMI Connector framework, but
can also be used for DisplayPort connectors.

baf616647f drm/connector: implement generic HDMI audio helpers
Several DRM drivers implement HDMI codec support (despite its name it
applies to both HDMI and DisplayPort drivers). Implement generic
framework to be used by these drivers. This removes a requirement to
implement get_eld() callback and provides default implementation for
codec's plug handling.

d34357743b drm/connector: Allow clearing HDMI infoframes
Our infoframe setting code currently lacks the ability to clear
infoframes. For some of the infoframes, we only need to replace them,
so if an error occurred when generating a new infoframe we would leave
a stale frame instead of clearing the frame.

However, the Dynamic Range and Mastering (DRM) infoframe should only
be present when displaying HDR content (ie: the HDR_OUTPUT_METADATA blob
is set). If we can't clear infoframes, the stale DRM infoframe will
remain and we can never set the display back to SDR mode.

With this change, we clear infoframes when they can not, or should not,
be generated. This fixes switching to an SDR mode from an HDR one.

0f7c05b3c7 drm/dp_mst: Register connectors via drm_connector_dynamic_register()
MST connectors should be initialized/registered by calling
drm_connector_dynamic_init()/drm_connector_dynamic_register(). The
commit adding these functions explains the issue with the current
drm_connector_init*()/drm_connector_register() interface for MST
connectors.

Based on the above adjust here the registration part and change the
initialization part in follow-up commits for each driver.

For now, drivers are allowed to keep using the drm_connector_init*()
functions, by drm_connector_dynamic_register() checking for this (see
drm_connector_add()). A commit later will change this to WARN in such
cases.

v2: Replaces references to a "patch" with "commit" in the commit log.

e54b00086f drm/dp_mst: Ensure mst_primary pointer is valid in drm_dp_mst_handle_up_req()
While receiving an MST up request message from one thread in
drm_dp_mst_handle_up_req(), the MST topology could be removed from
another thread via drm_dp_mst_topology_mgr_set_mst(false), freeing

3f61185503 drm/dp_mst: Fix down request message timeout handling
If receiving a reply for an MST down request message times out, the
thread receiving the reply in drm_dp_mst_handle_down_rep() could try to
dereference the drm_dp_sideband_msg_tx txmsg request message after the
thread waiting for the reply - calling drm_dp_mst_wait_tx_reply() - has
timed out and freed txmsg, hence leading to a use-after-free in
drm_dp_mst_handle_down_rep().

Prevent the above by holding the drm_dp_mst_topology_mgr::qlock in
drm_dp_mst_handle_down_rep() for the whole duration txmsg is looked up

a6fa67d26d drm/dp_mst: Fix resetting msg rx state after topology removal
If the MST topology is removed during the reception of an MST down reply
or MST up request sideband message, the
drm_dp_mst_topology_mgr::up_req_recv/down_rep_recv states could be reset
from one thread via drm_dp_mst_topology_mgr_set_mst(false), racing with
the reading/parsing of the message from another thread via
drm_dp_mst_handle_down_rep() or drm_dp_mst_handle_up_req(). The race is
possible since the reader/parser doesn't hold any lock while accessing
the reception state. This in turn can lead to a memory corruption in the
reader/parser as described by commit bd2fccac61 ("drm/dp_mst: Fix MST
sideband message body length check").

Fix the above by resetting the message reception state if needed before
reading/parsing a message. Another solution would be to hold the
drm_dp_mst_topology_mgr::lock for the whole duration of the message
reception/parsing in drm_dp_mst_handle_down_rep() and
drm_dp_mst_handle_up_req(), however this would require a bigger change.
Since the fix is also needed for stable, opting for the simpler solution
in this patch.

2063ca4248 drm/display: Drop obsolete dependency on COMPILE_TEST
Since commit 0166dc11be ("of: make CONFIG_OF user selectable"), it
is possible to test-build any driver which depends on OF on any
architecture by explicitly selecting OF. Therefore depending on
COMPILE_TEST as an alternative is no longer needed.

To avoid reintroducing the randconfig bug originally fixed by commit
876271118a ("drm/display: Fix build error without CONFIG_OF"),
DRM_MSM which selects DRM_DISPLAY_DP_HELPER must explicitly depend
on OF. This is consistent with what all other DRM drivers are doing.

a500f3751d drm/display: Fix building with GCC 15
GCC 15 enables -Werror=unterminated-string-initialization by default.
This results in the following build error

drivers/gpu/drm/display/drm_dp_dual_mode_helper.c: In function ‘is_hdmi_adaptor’:
drivers/gpu/drm/display/drm_dp_dual_mode_helper.c:164:17: error: initializer-string for array of

After discussion with Ville, the fix was to increase the size of

f0fa69b501 drm/connector: hdmi: Fix writing Dynamic Range Mastering infoframes
The largest infoframe we create is the DRM (Dynamic Range Mastering)
infoframe which is 26 bytes + a 4 byte header, for a total of 30
bytes.

With HDMI_MAX_INFOFRAME_SIZE set to 29 bytes, as it is now, we
allocate too little space to pack a DRM infoframe in
write_device_infoframe(), leading to an ENOSPC return from
hdmi_infoframe_pack(), and never calling the connector's
write_infoframe() vfunc.

Instead of having HDMI_MAX_INFOFRAME_SIZE defined in two places,
replace HDMI_MAX_INFOFRAME_SIZE with HDMI_INFOFRAME_SIZE(MAX) and make
MAX 27 bytes - which is defined by the HDMI specification to be the
largest infoframe payload.

70a6587dca drm/dp_mst: Fix DSC decompression detection in Synaptics branch devices

which is not exposed via a DP-to-DP peer device, rather a control flag

through it. This isn't true for all adapters with this branch device
though (for instance the Cakitte USBC->2xHDMI adapter reported in the

Fix the above by advertising the DSC decompression support only if the
capability flag for this in the UFP DPCD is actually set.

466cb3c630 drm/display: stop depending on DRM_DISPLAY_HELPER
Kconfig symbols should not declare dependency on DRM_DISPLAY_HELPER.
Move all parts of DRM_DISPLAY_HELPER to an if DRM_DISPLAY_HELPER block.

It is not possible to make those symbols select DRM_DISPLAY_HELPER
because of the link issues when a part of the helper is selected to be
built-in, while other part is selected to be as module. In such a case
the modular part doesn't get built at all, leading to undefined symbols.

The only viable alternative is to split drm_display_helper.ko into
several small modules, each of them having their own dependencies.

0cf09702a1 drm/dp_mst: Simplify the condition when to enumerate path resources
In the
	if (old_ddps != port->ddps || !created)
		if (port->ddps && !port->input)
			ret = drm_dp_send_enum_path_resources();

sequence the first if's condition is true if the port exists already
(!created) or the port was created anew (hence old_ddps==0) and it was
in the plugged state (port->ddps==1). The second if's condition is true
for output ports in the plugged state. So the function is called for an
output port in the plugged state, regardless if it already existed or
not and regardless of the old plugged state. In all other cases
port->full_pbn can be zeroed as the port is either an input for which
full_pbn is never set, or an output in the unplugged state for which
full_pbn was already zeroed previously or the port was just created
(with port->full_pbn==0).

Simplify the condition, making it clear that the path resources are
always enumerated for an output port in the plugged state.
