111a3f0afb Merge tag 'drm-xe-fixes-2024-02-01' of https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/drm/xe/kernel into drm-fixes
UAPI Changes:
- Only allow a single user-fence per exec / bind.
The reason for this clarification fix is a limitation in the implementation
which can be lifted moving forward, if needed.

Driver Changes:
- A crash fix
- A fix for an assert due to missing mem_acces ref
- Only allow a single user-fence per exec / bind.
- Some sparse warning fixes
- Two fixes for compilation failures on various odd
combinations of gcc / arch pointed out on LKML.
- Fix a fragile partial allocation pointed out on LKML.

Cross-driver Change:
- A sysfs ABI documentation warning fix
This also touches i915 and is acked by i915 maintainers.

Pull networking fixes from Jakub Kicinski:
 "Including fixes from netfilter.

As Paolo promised we continue to hammer out issues in our selftests.
This is not the end but probably the peak.

  Current release - regressions:

   - smc: fix incorrect SMC-D link group matching logic

Current release - new code bugs:

   - eth: bnxt: silence WARN() when device skips a timestamp, it happens

  Previous releases - regressions:

   - ipmr: fix null-deref when forwarding mcast packets

   - conntrack: evaluate window negotiation only for packets in the
REPLY direction, otherwise SYN retransmissions trigger incorrect
     window scale negotiation

   - ipset: fix performance regression in swap operation

  Previous releases - always broken:

   - tcp: add sanity checks to types of pages getting into the rx
zerocopy path, we only support basic NIC -> user, no page cache
     pages etc.

   - ip6_tunnel: make sure to pull inner header in __ip6_tnl_rcv()

   - nt_tables: more input sanitization changes

   - dsa: mt7530: fix 10M/100M speed on MediaTek MT7988 switch

   - bridge: mcast: fix loss of snooping after long uptime, jiffies do

57b3c130d9 ASoC: sun4i-spdif: Fix requirements for H6
When the H6 was added to the bindings, only the TX DMA channel was
added. As the hardware supports both transmit and receive functions,
the binding is missing the RX DMA channel and is thus incorrect.
Also, the reset control was not made mandatory.

Add the RX DMA channel for SPDIF on H6 by removing the compatible from
the list of compatibles that should only have a TX DMA channel. And add
the H6 compatible to the list of compatibles that require the reset
control to be present.

"Lots going on for rc2, ivpu has a bunch of stabilisation and debugging
work, then amdgpu and xe are the main fixes. i915, exynos have a few,
then some misc panel and bridge fixes.

Worth mentioning are three regressions. One of the nouveau fixes in
6.7 for a serious deadlock had side effects, so I guess we will bring
back the deadlock until I can figure out what should be done properly.
There was a scheduler regression vs amdgpu which was reported in a few
places and is now fixed. There was an i915 vs simpledrm problem
resulting in black screens, that is reverted also.

I'll be working on a proper nouveau fix, it kinda looks like one of
those cases where someone tried to use an atomic where they should
have probably used a lock, but I'll see.

b16702be21 Merge tag 'exynos-drm-fixes-for-v6.8-rc2' of git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/daeinki/drm-exynos into drm-fixes
Several fixups
   - Minor fix in `drm/exynos: gsc: gsc_runtime_resume`
. The patch ensures `clk_disable_unprepare()` is called on the first
       element of `ctx->clocks` array.
This issue was identified by the Linux Verification Center.

   - Fix excessive stack usage in `fimd_win_set_pixfmt()` in `drm/exynos`
. The issue, highlighted by gcc, involved an unnecessary on-stack copy of
the large `exynos_drm_plane` structure, now replaced with a pointer.

   - Fix an incorrect type issue in `exynos_drm_fimd.c` module
. Addresses an incorrect type issue in `fimd_commit()` within the
`exynos_drm_fimd.c` The problem was reported by the kernel test robot[1].

     [1] https://lore.kernel.org/oe-kbuild-all/202312140930.Me9yWf8F-lkp@intel.com/

   - Fix a typo in the dt-bindings for `samsung,exynos-mixer`
. Changes 'regs' to the correct property name 'reg' in the dt-bindings
       documentation for `samsung,exynos-mixer`

d546978e0c docs: admin-guide: remove obsolete advice related to SLAB allocator
Commit 1db9d06aaa55 ("mm/slab: remove CONFIG_SLAB from all Kconfig and
Makefile") removes the config SLAB and makes the SLUB allocator the only
default allocator in the kernel. Hence, the advice on reducing OS jitter
due to kworker kernel threads to build with CONFIG_SLUB instead of
CONFIG_SLAB is obsolete.

Remove the obsolete advice to build with SLUB instead of SLAB.

420332b941 ovl: mark xwhiteouts directory with overlay.opaque='x'
An opaque directory cannot have xwhiteouts, so instead of marking an
xwhiteouts directory with a new xattr, overload overlay.opaque xattr
for marking both opaque dir ('y') and xwhiteouts dir ('x').

This is more efficient as the overlay.opaque xattr is checked during
lookup of directory anyway.

This also prevents unnecessary checking the xattr when reading a
directory without xwhiteouts, i.e. most of the time.

Note that the xwhiteouts marker is not checked on the upper layer and
on the last layer in lowerstack, where xwhiteouts are not expected.

"This extends the netfs helper library that network filesystems can use
to replace their own implementations. Both afs and 9p are ported. cifs
is ready as well but the patches are way bigger and will be routed
separately once this is merged. That will remove lots of code as well.

The overal goal is to get high-level I/O and knowledge of the page
cache and ouf of the filesystem drivers. This includes knowledge about
the existence of pages and folios

The pull request converts afs and 9p. This removes about 800 lines of
code from afs and 300 from 9p. For 9p it is now possible to do writes
in larger than a page chunks. Additionally, multipage folio support
can be turned on for 9p. Separate patches exist for cifs removing
another 2000+ lines. I've included detailed information in the
  individual pulls I took.

  Summary:

   - Add NFS-style (and Ceph-style) locking around DIO vs buffered I/O
calls to prevent these from happening at the same time.

   - Support for direct and unbuffered I/O.

   - Support for write-through caching in the page cache.

   - O_*SYNC and RWF_*SYNC writes use write-through rather than writing
to the page cache and then flushing afterwards.

   - Support for write-streaming.

   - Support for write grouping.

   - Skip reads for which the server could only return zeros or EOF.

   - The fscache module is now part of the netfs library and the
     corresponding maintainer entry is updated.

   - Some helpers from the fscache subsystem are renamed to mark them as
     belonging to the netfs library.

   - Follow-up fixes for the netfs library.

   - Follow-up fixes for the 9p conversion"

3455135839 Merge tag 'gpio-fixes-for-v6.8-rc1' of git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/brgl/linux
Pull gpio fixes from Bartosz Golaszewski:
"Apart from some regular driver fixes there's a relatively big revert
of the locking changes that were introduced to GPIOLIB in this merge
  window.

This is because it turned out that some legacy GPIO interfaces - that
need to translate a number from the global GPIO numberspace to the
address of the relevant descriptor, thus running a GPIO device lookup
and taking the GPIO device list lock - are still used in old code from
atomic context resulting in "scheduling while atomic" errors.

I'll try to make the read-only part of the list access entirely
lockless using SRCU but this will take some time so let's go back to
the old global spinlock for now.

  Summary:

   - revert the changes aiming to use a read-write semaphore to protect
the list of GPIO devices due to calls to legacy API taking that
lock from atomic context in old code

   - fix inverted logic in DEFINE_FREE() for GPIO device references

   - check the return value of bgpio_init() in gpio-mlxbf3

db5ccb9eb2 Merge tag 'cxl-for-6.8' of git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/cxl/cxl
Pull CXL (Compute Express Link) updates from Dan Williams:
"The bulk of this update is support for enumerating the performance
capabilities of CXL memory targets and connecting that to a platform
CXL memory QoS class. Some follow-on work remains to hook up this data
into core-mm policy, but that is saved for v6.9.

The next significant update is unifying how CXL event records (things
like background scrub errors) are processed between so called
"firmware first" and native error record retrieval. The CXL driver
handler that processes the record retrieved from the device mailbox is
now the handler for that same record format coming from an EFI/ACPI
  notification source.

This also contains miscellaneous feature updates, like Get Timestamp,
  and other fixups.

a2ded784cd Merge tag 'trace-v6.8' of git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/trace/linux-trace
Pull tracing updates from Steven Rostedt:

 - Allow kernel trace instance creation to specify what events are
   created

Inside the kernel, a subsystem may create a tracing instance that it
can use to send events to user space. This sub-system may not care
about the thousands of events that exist in eventfs. Allow the
sub-system to specify what sub-systems of events it cares about, and
only those events are exposed to this instance.

 - Allow the ring buffer to be broken up into bigger sub-buffers than
   just the architecture page size.

A new tracefs file called "buffer_subbuf_size_kb" is created. The
user can now specify a minimum size the sub-buffer may be in
kilobytes. Note, that the implementation currently make the
   sub-buffer size a power of 2 pages (1, 2, 4, 8, 16, ...) but the user
only writes in kilobyte size, and the sub-buffer will be updated to
the next size that it will can accommodate it. If the user writes in
10, it will change the size to be 4 pages on x86 (16K), as that is
the next available size that can hold 10K pages.

 - Update the debug output when a corrupt time is detected in the ring
buffer. If the ring buffer detects inconsistent timestamps, there's a
debug config options that will dump the contents of the meta data of
the sub-buffer that is used for debugging. Add some more information
to this dump that helps with debugging.

 - Add more timestamp debugging checks (only triggers when the config is
   enabled)

 - Increase the trace_seq iterator to 2 page sizes.

 - Allow strings written into tracefs_marker to be larger. Up to just
under 2 page sizes (based on what trace_seq can hold).

 - Increase the trace_maker_raw write to be as big as a sub-buffer can
   hold.

 - Remove 32 bit time stamp logic, now that the rb_time_cmpxchg() has
   been removed.

 - More selftests were added.

 - Some code clean ups as well.
