commit1a1aa356ddupstream. iavf_set_ringparams doesn't communicate to the user that 1. The user requested descriptor count is out of range. Instead it just quietly sets descriptors to the "clamped" value and calls it done. This makes it look an invalid value was successfully set as the descriptor count when this isn't actually true. 2. The user provided descriptor count needs to be inflated for alignment reasons. This behavior is confusing. The ice driver has already addressed this by rejecting invalid values for descriptor count and messaging for alignment adjustments. Do the same thing here by adding the error and info messages. Linux kernel
============
There are several guides for kernel developers and users. These guides can
be rendered in a number of formats, like HTML and PDF. Please read
Documentation/admin-guide/README.rst first.
In order to build the documentation, use ``make htmldocs`` or
``make pdfdocs``. The formatted documentation can also be read online at:
https://www.kernel.org/doc/html/latest/
There are various text files in the Documentation/ subdirectory,
several of them using the Restructured Text markup notation.
Please read the Documentation/process/changes.rst file, as it contains the
requirements for building and running the kernel, and information about
the problems which may result by upgrading your kernel.
